The aim of our study

We are developing a list of key information that women want to be given prior to having a vaginal birth! This page will keep you updated on the progress of our project.

Our research team is developing a ‘core information set’ to improve care during childbirth when having a vaginal birth. A ‘core information set’ is an agreed standardised set of information points that should be disclosed to people prior to having a vaginal birth. Important information might include, for instance, associated risks, length of time spent in hospital, and future implications on fertility or childbirth. If all women are given the same standardised information points, it will allow for them to make fully informed decisions regarding their birthing experiences. This will hopefully lead to better birthing experiences for women and greater satisfaction.

This study will work with women, healthcare professionals and interested groups to create a consensus-derived list of key information points that will be discussed with women prior to having a vaginal birth.
